Ritz Crisp and Thins Salt and Vinegar Review

Ritz Crisp Thins Salt Vinegar and Cream Cheese Onion

When I starting time heard that Nabisco's Ritz Crackers were moving into chips, I was terrified. I have PTSD from Cheez-It'due south effort to move into chips with Grooves. Grooves didn't practise the Cheez-It cracker justice! I have almost the same love for Ritz every bit I do for Cheez-It; I love those damn buttery Ritz crackers. Point is, I had high expectations for Ritz's new Crisp & Thins.

And so, what are they?

It's Ritz's effort to hop on the "Improve For You" train – touting oven-baked, not fried, murphy & wheat fries. It launched in the U.One thousand. starting time and now they're rolling out globally. In that location's a lineup of 4 flavors on U.S. shelves: Sea Salt, Bacon, Common salt & Vinegar, And Cream Cheese & Onion. I picked out Salt & Vinegar (considering I like table salt & vinegar fries) and Foam Cheese & Onion (because I kept thinking information technology was sour cream & onion and wanted to come across why Ritz had to be all frou frou about it).

I offset smelled the Cream Cheese & Onion ones, which didn't really smell similar much. On that basis, I vigorously inhaled the Salt & Vinegar, which was a mistake. The pungent vinegar invaded my olfactory with no mercy. 100 per centum user error, not Ritz'southward fault.

The chips themselves were very, for the lack of a improve word, artsy merely the kind of pretentious and annoying artsy. I say this considering they couldn't just choose a damn circle or square like all other crackers. Instead, they chose a puddle shape. Merely we all know that information technology probably took their manufacturing team way too long to perfect the mold for these. These puddles likewise had seemingly random air pockets/bubbles.

In the same vein of pretentious cocked, it looked like they tried very difficult to accept a baked await – one side of the chip had scorch marks. They really reminded me of naan bread – oblong-ish shape, air pockets, and with the occasional imperfect scorch marks. The Cream Cheese & Onion had a slight orange tinge, while the coloring of the Salt & Vinegar was just normal, gluey cracker color.

At this point, I ended that these would probably be nil like the buttery crackers that I know and dearest. But, yous know what, I was okay with it – I knew I couldn't hold Ritz dorsum from their salubrious chip dreams.

The Foam Cheese & Onion surprisingly tasted more like subtle cheddar & sour foam than sour cream & onion. Trusty ol' cheddar & sour foam is e'er salty cheesy goodness, just it's nil mind blowing and I'g even so eye rolling at the cocked fartsiness. However, I tin can't believe I dismissed the air pocket/bubbles considering they fabricated the texture. Something about the crisis of the cracker with the extra oomph from the air pockets is astonishing. Never guess a book past its cover, y'all!

As for the Salt & Vinegar, same textural amazingness just unlike other common salt & vinegar flavored chips, at that place was a subtle-y sweet aftertaste. Afterward almost an unabridged bag of them, I ended that information technology might just exist from the scrap itself existence wheat and irish potato that's helping to balance out the vinegar tang.

After 2 numberless of munching, I really appreciated that my fingers weren't left with a greasy, powdery remainder. At that place was some, but nothing like the usual fleck residue mess.

Valiant "Meliorate For You" effort, Ritz! It might really work; I liked the Common salt & Vinegar ones so much that I'd consider replacing my usual common salt & vinegar kettle fries with them.

Purchased Price:
Size: vii.1 oz. bag
Purchased at: Kroger
Rating: 7 out of 10 (Foam Cheese & Onion)
Rating: 9 out of x (Salt & Vinegar)
Pros: Cipher like a Ritz Cracker, simply tasty AND "ameliorate for you". Textural amazingness. No greasy, powdery residue.
Cons: Why the artsy fartsy chip shape & names? Cream Cheese & Onion is merely semantics for cheddar & sour cream.
